Jalin Verifi3D: Enabling Online Transactions for GPN Debit Cards

As digital lifestyles continue to evolve, more and more Indonesians are conducting their daily transactions online, from shopping for essentials and paying bills to subscribing to digital services, all from the convenience of their smartphones. Despite this growing trend, many holders of GPN debit cards still lack the ability to make secure online purchases.

To bridge this gap, PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara (“Jalin”) introduces Jalin Verifi3D, a digital transaction authentication solution that enables GPN debit cards to be used safely and seamlessly for online shopping. This innovation expands the functionality of GPN debit cards, which were previously limited to ATM and EDC machine usage, into a reliable payment method for domestic e-commerce platforms.

By adopting EMV® 3-D Secure technology, Jalin Verifi3D adds an extra layer of protection to every digital transaction. The system verifies the cardholder’s identity using methods such as One-Time Passwords (OTP) and risk-based authentication, ensuring that transactions are conducted only by authorized users while reducing the risk of fraud and card misuse.

To date, over million GPN debit cards have been issued in Indonesia. However, not all cardholders have been able to access online payment features. This underscores the importance of Jalin Verifi3D, which addresses the need for a national payment ecosystem that is not only robust in infrastructure but also aligned with the digital behaviors of today’s consumers.

Jalin Verifi3D has been officially licensed by Bank Indonesia since November 2024 and declared ready for public use following a successful Production Trial Run (PTR). The service is now available for widespread adoption by all GPN member banks seeking to enable online shopping features for their domestic debit cards.

Banks can gradually activate the service, allowing their partner merchants to begin accepting GPN debit card payments in online channels. The system is also integrated with various local payment gateways, enabling flexible activation and adoption based on each bank’s readiness.

Beyond improving access for users, the implementation of Jalin Verifi3D delivers strategic benefits for banks. Transactions are processed entirely within Indonesia, ensuring cost efficiency and data sovereignty. Banks also gain the potential for fee-based income from online debit transactions, while reaching the “debit-first” customer segment, users who may not own credit cards but are active in digital commerce.
