For PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara (Jalin), secure, reliable, and trustworthy payment system services are not created instantly. Just as a tree benefits its surroundings, these wide-reaching services are sustained by parts that often go unnoticed—specifically the foundation or “roots” mirrored in robust Good Corporate Governance and risk management, alongside the “trunk” which represents responsibly managed business operations.
Jalin believes that business growth, impact, and stakeholder trust can only be achieved when the company manages its operations and resources wisely. The realization that every aspect of operations can provide broader benefits to the industry and society is what gave rise to the Operational-to-Impact Initiative: Turn Responsibility into Environmental Action.
This initiative engages Jalin's employees to actively participate in the responsible management of old work uniforms in collaboration with EcoTouch. The program stands as concrete proof of Jalin's ability to transform operational resource governance into measurable environmental action.
As a result, a total of 177 kilograms of uniform material were successfully recycled and diverted from landfills. Based on the implementing partner's calculations, this initiative successfully reduced approximately 4,407 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, while simultaneously converting the waste into 44 kilograms of yarn and 374 meters of new fabric.
As a next step, every kilogram of collected uniforms was converted into a commitment to plant one mangrove seedling. Consequently, a total of 177 mangrove seedlings were directly planted by Jalin employee representatives across various departments.
The highlight of this material management program took place on Wednesday (1/7) at the Mangrove Forest Area, North Jakarta. To carry this out, Jalin partnered with T.CARE as the implementing partner to facilitate the mangrove planting initiative.
Through this initiative, 177 mangrove seedlings were planted and are projected to rehabilitate a coastal area of 44.25 square meters, while providing measurable long-term ecological impacts. The potential carbon emission absorption (CO₂e) is estimated to reach 26.55 to 35.40 kilograms per year, contributing to the mitigation of environmental risks in Jakarta's coastal areas.
Putu Agnia, VP Corporate Secretary of Jalin, expressed: “This environmental initiative reflects the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles that are integrated end-to-end within Jalin's operations. Beyond mere social responsibility, this move underscores that prudently managed risks and business governance can generate a wider impact, cultivate public trust, while also supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Putu.
Meanwhile, Yeni Nurhayati, representing the Mangrove Protected Forest Management under the Jakarta Provincial Parks and City Forest Agency, stated that the current condition of Jakarta's coast is a serious concern for the local government. "We all know that Jakarta is currently facing significant challenges, ranging from coastal erosion that triggers tidal flooding to the degradation of coastal land quality. We appreciate Jalin's initiative, which tangibly contributes to the preservation of the mangrove ecosystem as an effort to mitigate coastal erosion," Yeni expressed.
Specifically, the uniform recycling initiative supports the attainment of SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Concurrently, the mangrove planting activities contribute to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
The synergy between internal operational efficiency and ecosystem rehabilitation underscores Jalin's philosophy of driving sustainable business growth. Moving forward, Jalin is committed to continuously strengthening the company's foundation, running responsible operations, and expanding sustainability initiatives to ensure that every service provided delivers tangible added value and reinforces public trust.
