The Evolution of ATM Link Over the Years

ATMs are usually designed to access only one parent bank and that’s why, sometimes, it turns out to be such a hassle for us, doesn’t it? Through ATM Link, you may make transactions using a variety of ATMs from different banks. Therefore, you may make transactions, from money transfers to bill payments, in a more flexible manner. To obtain its wide range of benefits, let’s get to know more about this ATM type in the following article!

The Inception of ATM Link

ATM Link is a technological innovation in banking that has existed since 1992, developed by PT Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronis. However, at a national scale, the ATM link was introduced directly and officially by the Minister of SOE who was in office, Rini Soemarno, in 2015. This innovation is the result of consolidation between the Association of State-Owned Banks.

The Purpose of ATM Link Establishment

Before the existence of ATM Link, customers still had to find the same ATM with the parent bank of their accounts. However, ever since the emergence of this technological innovation in banking, it has become increasingly easier to make transactions from various ATM centers nearby.

This is because ATM Link is indeed specifically designed to improve customers’ convenience in accessing banking services in Indonesia. By utilizing this ATM type, you may leverage a wide range of banking services, from cash withdrawal, money transfers, bill payments, to balance checking in different ATMs.

In addition to providing easy access, ATM Link also allows you to make more economical transactions. You used to pay a relatively high fee while making transactions from other bank’s ATMs, right? With this latest innovation, banking administration fees are now fairly cheaper than before.

The Growing Networks of ATM

ATM Link does not cover all banks that are operating in Indonesia but concentrates on those mostly used in general. There are 4 banks included in the ATM Link network, namely Bank Mandiri, BNI, BTN, and BRI. These four banks belong to the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara).

Considering its advantages which benefit many people, the number of this ATM type keeps growing from time to time. Moreover, since 2021, the total of ATM Links has reached beyond 53,000 units, distributed all over Indonesia. This figure constitutes a significant leap, given that the previous number of ATM Link recorded only around 45,000 units according to the data provided by Keuangan Kontan.

Of course, we cannot separate this growth from its driving factors, starting from the economic development factor, an increase in the number of banking customers, and technological advances. The impacts of stable economic development can indeed stimulate the demand for banking accessibility, including ATM facilities since it adjusts to the number of increasing customers at the same time.

Changes in the ATM Link’s Transaction Cost Scheme

As mentioned above, it is a fact that transactions made using ATM Link may generate fewer expenses than using common bank ATMs. However, since mid-2021, a transaction cost scheme underwent some changes. But you don’t need to worry about it as they are somewhat subtle.

One of the changes is that a fee of Rp2,500.00 is charged for balance-checking transactions. Also, the cash withdrawal fee is now higher than before, namely from Rp4,000.00 to Rp5,000.00. The change in this cost scheme is a form of effort taken by SOE banks who also wish to participate in supporting the acceleration of cashless transactions.

Today’s ATM Link

Currently, ATM Link holds a vital role in promoting Indonesia’s economic development. Besides, Jalin is one of the parties that also contributes to supporting the increasingly rapid evolution of ATM Link.
