Recording Positive Performance, Jalin Manages to Process Over 60 Million QRIS Transactions by June 2023
Jul 05, 2023
JAKARTA, June 26, 2023 – PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara ("Jalin") has recorded quite an uplifting operational performance leading up to the end of the first semester of 2023. Jalin has successfully processed more than 601 million payment transactions, in part due to a notable surge in Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions, which have increased tenfold compared to 2022.
Jalin's Commercial Director, Eko Dedi Rukminto, stated that the Company has processed over 60 million QRIS transactions up to June 2023, and this figure is projected to continue growing significantly until the end of 2023.
"The substantial growth in QRIS transactions in the first semester signals a positive trend in the rapid improvement of Jalin's and our Members' performance in the first half of 2023. Jalin continues to promote more widespread use of QRIS within the community and consistently supports Bank Indonesia's program to accelerate the digital payment system in the country with fast, convenient, cost-effective, secure, and reliable QRIS," explained Eko.
Jalin predicts it will be able to facilitate payment transactions totaling more than 1 billion by the end of 2023, including the potential sixfold increase in QRIS transactions with an estimated total of over 660 million transactions compared to 2022.
Jalin's President Director, Ario Tejo Bayu Aji, revealed that the projected total of QRIS transactions demonstrates a high level of acceptance by the public in utilizing payment technology, both from the user and merchant sides, encouraging them to become more accustomed to using QRIS as a non-cash payment method.
With regard to the regulator, in order to accelerate digital payments, Bank Indonesia is targeting 45 million QRIS users by the end of 2023, with around 80 to 90 percent of these users being micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across Indonesia.
"We strive to play a role in accelerating digital economic growth within the MSME sector by continuously promoting the acceptance of QRIS usage through education and communication on the digital channels owned by the Company, demonstrating the benefits that QRIS can provide in terms of ease and convenience in making transactions for both users and merchants," added Ario Tejo.
The usage of QRIS offers a multitude of benefits for both users and merchants. Specifically, from the merchant's perspective, it enables real-time transaction status checks, cost efficiency compared to other payment methods, a system with tried and tested security standards, and the ability to process transactions 24/7. Additionally, the utilization of QRIS provides added value for merchants by granting them access to the digital ecosystem, including e-commerce, financing, and investments. Another added value is the potential to expand the customer base for business growth, minimize misuse risks, and reduce cash handling expenses.
"The public has become accustomed to conducting transactions and payments digitally, marking a positive shift in behavior that drives the digital economy and opens up opportunities for financial inclusion in Indonesia. The efforts championed by Jalin in promoting payment systems, including QRIS, embody Jalin's vision as 'The National Digital Highway' to connect the public with financial and non-financial ecosystems," explained Ario Tejo.
As additional information, Jalin continues to develop new QRIS features, such as enhancing Cross Border QRIS capabilities to other countries and TTS (Transfer, Cash Withdrawal, Cash Deposit), while maintaining the operation of QRIS services to support the rapid increase in QRIS transactions. Jalin consistently educates and raises awareness among the public to make QRIS the top choice for digital payment transactions in Indonesia.
