Jakarta – PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara ("Jalin"), part of the Danareksa State-Owned Holding, is stepping up its sustainability efforts with the launch of the "Threads with Purpose" campaign. This initiative reflects Jalin's commitment to addressing critical environmental challenges while promoting employee awareness about sustainability. By tackling the issue of textile waste—one of Indonesia’s largest contributors to environmental pollution due to the fast fashion industry—the campaign is a call to action for lasting change.

Data from Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) reveals the country generates approximately 2.3 million tons of textile waste annually. Alarmingly, only 300,000 tons are recycled, with the rest ending up in landfills or incinerators, contributing to rising greenhouse gas emissions. Without intervention, this waste volume is expected to increase by 70% in the coming years, intensifying environmental degradation.

The campaign embraces circular economy principles in collaboration with EcoTouch, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming textile waste into eco-friendly materials. The initiative includes actionable steps such as donating wearable clothing for reuse and upcycling non-wearable items and fabric scraps into economically valuable new materials. This approach not only minimizes emissions and energy usage but also paves the way for innovative products that benefit both communities and the environment.

The results have been impressive. With EcoTouch's support, Jalin collected 250.1 kilograms of used clothing from its employees. These items were processed into 531.46 meters of eco-friendly fabric—the equivalent of five international football fields in length. This recycling effort has also had a measurable environmental impact, preventing 10 kilograms of methane emissions, cutting 6,252.5 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, and stopping 7,294,416 microplastic or microfiber particles from polluting ecosystems. These achievements underscore how innovation and sustainability can work together to make a real difference.

"This campaign is about more than just recycling—it’s about fostering a new mindset among our employees that champions sustainable fashion," said Ario Tejo Bayu Aji, CEO, Jalin. "We aim to encourage our team to donate their old clothes for reuse or repurposing into valuable products, promoting simple yet impactful actions that demonstrate how individual contributions can lead to significant environmental benefits."

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It is also a centerpiece of Jalin’s 8th-anniversary celebrations, themed "Infinity 8: The Power of 8: Infinite Innovation, Sustainable Future."

"Through this campaign, Jalin is not only playing its part in protecting the environment but also building a sustainable ecosystem for a better future," Ario concluded.
